Originally from Japan the Akita is a large breed dog. There are two sort of breeds an American Akita and a Japanese Akita. The Japanese Akita is seen as a national treasure. Some characteristics of the breed are: they are 24 - 26 inches high and weigh approx. 35 - 54 kilograms. The Akita has different colored coats. There are Red, Sesame, Fawn, Brindle and White Akita's. The white Akita is the most common sort. From Akita's are known that they are very clean.
